~ようとしない
🍡 意味
「~しよう」という気持ちがないことを表す。
「~する気がない」「~しようとしない」という意味。
(Shows that someone has no intention of doing something or refuses to do it.)
※ 「できない」のではなく、「したくない」「する気持ちがない」という意味。
(It means “doesn’t want to” or “has no intention of,” not “can’t.”)

V意向形+としない
<例>
・食べます → 食べようとしない
・飲みます → 飲もうとしない
・行きます → 行こうとしない
・読みます → 読もうとしない
・します → しようとしない
・来ます → こようとしない

① 弟は、いくら言っても勉強しようとしない。
(My younger brother refuses to study no matter how many times I tell him.)
② 彼は自分の間違いを認めようとしない。
(He refuses to admit his mistake.)
③ 友達は人の意見を聞こうとしない。
(My friend refuses to listen to other people’s opinions.)
④ 留学生の中には、日本語を話そうとしない人もいる。
(Some international students don’t try to speak Japanese.)
⑤ 子どもは野菜を食べようとしない。
(The child refuses to eat vegetables.)
⑥ 彼女は人に助けを求めようとしない。
(She refuses to ask others for help.)

(Teacher: Why doesn’t Tanaka try to give a presentation?)
学生:みんなの前で話すのが苦手だそうです。
(Student: I heard he’s not good at speaking in front of everyone.)
② 会社で
社員:何度説明しても、彼は新しいシステムを使おうとしません。
(Employee: Even after explaining it many times, he won’t try to use the new system.)
上司:理由があるかもしれませんね。一度話を聞いてみましょう。
(Manager: There may be a reason. Let’s talk to him once and find out.)
③ 日本語学校で
留学生A:どうして日本のレストランに行こうとしないんですか。
(International Student A: Why don’t you try going to Japanese restaurants?)
留学生B:日本料理は甘すぎて、あまり好きじゃないんです。
(International Student B: Japanese food is too sweet, so I don’t like it very much.)
留学生A:そうですか。甘くない料理もあるかもしれません。先生に聞いてみましょう。
